I bought a Protege 9.0 for my new Fisher bike in 2004 and once I put it on, I saw no reason to switch to something new. Something broke after 6 years of use (bracket? cable? magnet? sensor? computer?). I took the risk of assuming it was the bracket/sensor assembly and not the computer and bought this replacement kit. The replacement worked almost perfectly, except that the new magnet didn't appear to be any different from the old one, which had been redesigned and positioned. common complaint. The old magnet worked for years, but the magnet/sensor sometimes stopped at the wrong time. To prevent this, I cleaned the surface of the old magnet with rubbing alcohol and glued a small neodymium magnet onto it. Since then I have had no more problems with the readings from the sensors. :) I'm sure the new magnet will work, but I decided to experiment with the old one first and left it on because it was already working so well. Now I have a spare magnet. FWIW, the old sensor/bracket assembly didn't work with any magnet, new or old, so I'm assuming the sensor is dead. The much lower cost of replacing the mounting system is definitely worth it if your computer is still working. UPDATED: 11/22/11
