Fantastic cleaver. Construction: all steel. head and shaft. The grip is firm and quite stubborn. The back of the wedge is slightly curved and has a special "do not hammer" warning. So that doesn't mean you can drive in a wedge and then hammer it in with a larger sledgehammer. Use of Skills: It's heavier than your average cleaver/sledgehammer, but if you can handle it, its weight and broad head will split a log in one hit, without the monster's heavy downward swing and slight head turn associated with use of a narrower cleaver is helpful. Assuming you're chopping dry wood, I've had no problem piling up a sizable pile of firewood in an hour's work. A couple of logs with some rot/softness in the middle just exploded when I lowered the hammer. On rare occasions when the wood would not split (due to knots), the wedge was easily torn off for re-turning. He seems pretty resilient. So I doubt I'll have to buy another one, but if I needed two I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.
