This thing can cut wood.

Previously I used an antique 5 pound sledgehammer with a splinter handle. The thing is better in every way. I thought I was going to lose my footing, but this stabbing sledgehammer brought my cutting ability back to personal bests. The caveat is that this thing is surprisingly heavy for its weight and length. My girlfriend and even my former male roommate couldn't rock this with skill. However, if you are (or want to be) strong, this is the best splitting device in this price range.

  • Great design

Great product for hand and power tools

I was looking for a sledgehammer of this size with a longer handle like the one I already have but couldn't find it so I ordered this to possibly replace the handle with a longer one replace one . Not necessary. That works great. Not designed for splitting huge chunks of wood, but if it's easy to split wood this might work, but it's not designed for that. Works great on medium to small pieces of wood. Everything we have used to heat firewood for 50 years is like this. It's nice to have a…

No Truper brand? Not the Collins brand? Volcano.

I received the "Volcano" brand. The box was badly dented and open enough that I could just reach out and pull it out. Bubble wrapped head. Still thinking about going back. For $45, I could also go to the docks for a fire ax or hammer. I changed it from 2 stars to 4 stars after using it on a very dry 20 inch long log and a thick 8 inch or 10 inch wide log. The wood must be dry before you can split it with a sledgehammer. It wasn't a full baseball swing. Push a little harder and drop the…

Excellent sledgehammer for chopping firewood at a reasonable price!

I had a set of muzzles when I was 20 in the 1980s and loved him for chopping wood. Apparently Sotz Maul is no longer available so this is the best I could find. It arrived on time (Revain Prime 2 day!) and I started chopping wood the same day I received it and it works great. It's been so long I can't directly compare it to Sotz, but it seems just as good and works great. To be on the safe side, I split Red Oak, which has matured for about 2 years and splits well. Now that I'm in my fifties…

Awesome stabbing sledgehammer.

Fantastic cleaver. Construction: all steel. head and shaft. The grip is firm and quite stubborn. The back of the wedge is slightly curved and has a special "do not hammer" warning. So that doesn't mean you can drive in a wedge and then hammer it in with a larger sledgehammer. Use of Skills: It's heavier than your average cleaver/sledgehammer, but if you can handle it, its weight and broad head will split a log in one hit, without the monster's heavy downward swing and slight head turn…

Changed my mind about chopping wood

I grew up chopping wood. My family used firewood exclusively to heat the house, and each summer I worked to run enough wiring to last through the fall, winter, and spring (western Maine). I don't remember my dad keeping sledgehammers ready to split, but they were nothing compared to this 12-pound wonder. Eventually I grew up and moved south. I got off the ground and never got a chance to use the hammer. A few years ago I reached a point in my life where I had the desire and time to go back to…

Wrong big sledgehammer for splitting

I have chopped a lot of firewood in my life; I mean a lot, over 100 cables easily. I already have a large wedge like Post and was looking to get a second one. This one looked similar because it has a very similar shape, the base shape. I have another heavy triangle mall and it splits very well. However, this product is very different from the others I have, even though they look like a sim. Firstly the leading edge is not symmetrical, I will post a photo, but the leading edge is totally…
