Ping Pong Novice Likes This

Unlike most of the reviewers here, I am a pitiful ping pong player. I didn't even know that there were different standards of paddles for the game, since most of my playing has only been in community rec centers, so it was never a really serious game to me. But a relative recently got an actual ping pong table in their home, so I said to myself, what the heck, let me choose this and give it a try.I have to say I was really amazed at the degree of quality this paddle shows (compared to what I've been used to using). I have a large hand, and it has a sense of heft but not weight to it, if that makes sense. It's probably because the paddle feels balanced when I hold it. It doesn't feel awkward, and the grip is smoothly finished and it moves easily in my hand. It feels more like an extension of my hand than the cheap paddles ever did.The paddle part itself is a layer of what looks like plywood sandwiched between two, thin layers of a dense rubber-like substance, which is then topped with a slightly tacky (as in "sticky”) red rubbery layer on one side, and a similar black layer on the other. The plywood layer extends through the length of the handle ("full tang”, if it was a knife) .I was suprised that I now seem to have somewhat more control over the ball when I'm part of a volley; the surface of this paddle does seem to make a difference. It also seems to less like a cr* pshoot as to where the ball is going to wind up; I guess it's helping me to judge my shots better. For someone at my skill level, this is probably a waste of money, but I think that if you are someone who enjoys and plays a lot of ping pong, it really would be worthwhile to step up to this product. It's like buying a well-made hammer when you know you're going to be doing a lot of construction. Now when I play ping pong, my opponents will look at my paddle and weep in envy. =)

Pros
  • amazing racket. Very well balanced, my game was immediately taken to next level.
Cons
  • The racket is quite heavy, making it difficult to handle for beginners
