Like everyone who buys them, we try to live more sustainably and avoid the toxic effects of plastic on the earth and our bodies. Straws help my husband drink more fluids. He lives in constant dehydration so straws help him a lot. And I have thinning enamel. Carbonated drinks (even carbonated water) and other acidic drinks (eg, juice) wear down tooth enamel. (So grateful my dentist told me this a few years ago, before I did any more damage!) When you drink through a straw, you're bypassing your teeth, protecting them from acid erosion. So we really want straws to be a part of our lives! These straws are perfect. As you can see in the photo, they are perfect for my regular drinking glass (purchased in a case and barrel, 7 1/2" to 8" tall). I like the curve - it helps if I'm sipping from a straw in a semi-recumbent position, like in bed or in the bath. I love that there are different colors to help you figure out which drink is yours. It comes with two metal straws which I haven't tried yet. The cleaning brushes are perfect and easy to use. And I really like that everything is neatly packed in the nice little muslin bags they give you. Perfect for easy closet storage where we keep them. After all, I'm the most smell-sensitive person I know and they don't smell. I will not put them in the dishwasher as the previous silicone products I have had have taken on the smell of dish soap over time. In fact, I could just test one of the straws to see if they pick up the dish soap smell. If it smells like washing-up liquid, then there must be residue in it - and it bothers me to think that I'm sipping small amounts of washing-up liquid as well as sparkling water! I will report after doing my experiment for the few people who, like me, notice and care about these things.
