Review on Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 SP XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Lens for Canon DSLR Cameras (Model A09E) by Hasam Ali ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

There are pluses and minuses, think before you buy.

When used with this lens, the Sony ILCE-7RM2 camera freezes for 45 seconds about every 500 frames, which is very annoying during the shooting process. The lens has the latest firmware v.3, the camera also has the latest firmware v.4.01. I took it to the Tamron service center, nice guys tried to help, changed the motherboard in the lens - but it didn’t change anything, the camera freezes continued. I thought it was some kind of defect in my copy of the lens, I rented another Tamron 28-75mm f / 2.8 and the same story with it, the camera freezes periodically. Judging by the reviews I found, I'm not the only one who faced this problem: Sony cameras are generally capricious when working with third-party optics and you need to be very careful when buying lenses from other manufacturers. The problem is definitely not in the camera: I have 2 more Sony lenses and the camera has not frozen even once with any of them. I bought a Sony FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS and forgot about these freezes like a bad dream. If you plan to buy this (or any other third-party lens), I advise you to rent it first and shoot 3 thousand frames in various lighting conditions.

Pros
  • Sharp even at 2.8, reveals the capabilities of a 42-megapixel matrix Compact compared to Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM Cheap compared to Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM
Cons
  • Poor compatibility with Sony ILCE-7RM2, the camera freezes regularly with this lens. Marked plastic case
