I worked with bicycle and motorcycle chains as both had old fashioned easy to use chain links with a large clip to hold them together. I've never felt the need for a fancy special tool to connect or remove master links, so I've never had chain pliers. Motorcycles got rid of the master links many years ago, the new master links used in bike chains are a bit stiffer but still not a big deal. I decided to buy these dumb things as I'm working on a bike project that involves replacing a lot of sprockets and thought they might help a little. Wow, I feel stupid I didn't buy these things when the bikes switched to newer clampless main links. What was a little PITA is now almost instantaneous and painless: I removed the link (i.e. removed the master link, broken the chain and reinstalled the master link) yesterday with only slightly more effort than after setting up and clearing my tools. . I bought park pliers because I have a lot of park tools and they all work well, another brand might be just as good and maybe a little cheaper. Whatever brand you choose, if you ride your own bike, get a chain tool set, it's well spent. If (like me) you're not sure which brand to go for, throw in a few extra bucks and shop for parkas.
