Great kit for electronics and/or programming beginners (Sketch SDK)

Great kit for electronics and/or programming beginners (Sketch SDK). I was looking for a way to introduce my 9 year old to the concepts of electronics and programming and this is perfect. The instructions are a bit short, so a basic knowledge of electronics and programming is helpful, but even if you don't use Google, this set will help you. I work as a software engineer and have an electronics background from school and a previous job so it wasn't that hard. SunFounder has online tutorials with the exact code for each tutorial, so be sure to visit their website and tutorial instructions. This is important as the book provided has no detail and is very small. You'll also need to do some soldering, so plan to get a fine-tipped iron if you don't already have one. This would be a great classroom lab for a semester as it combines component assembly and programming. It really stimulates the imagination to work with potential use cases beyond the lab lessons provided; there are no limits to the possibilities of our time. My 9 year old son loves the classes and looks forward to the next one. She's still of an age when the concepts of programming and electronics are a little vague, but familiarity brings comfort. I hope that when she grows up she won't hesitate to go to computer science or electronics class. A star was deducted for the tutorial guide provided (small and concise on specific details) and soldering requirements.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • You could choose a newer model
