Review on McGard 65315BK Chrome Black Spline by George Johnson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Paint is a pain for tires and wheels

I like the wedge drive and the fact that the cone seat rotates separately from the driven part of the nut. It acts like a washer under the nut, protecting the wheel and providing a constant clamping force at a given torque. Disadvantages here because of the color. It is uneven in thickness, so the tool does not fit well on some nuts. Once the tool has scraped the paint, DO NOT scrape down to the chrome, scrape down to the bare steel. Which will rust at the slightest provocation. You will have rusty nuts after the first rain. I believe the salt on the road will exacerbate the situation.

Pros
  • McGard's plating process includes multiple layers of nickel and one layer of microporous chrome for superior finish and rust protection. Each lock is hardened and tempered. Manufactured in the USA to meet or exceed OEM standards.
Cons
  • There are disadvantages
