Do that! Excellent dry hatch.
For a kayak I would recommend using waterproof kayak rivets instead of the screws included in the kit. I installed it with a Sicon bead instead of a foam insert. Well made and appears to be on par in quality with products twice the price. I use it to store valuables in the hull of my fishing kayak.
