great for emergencies

I put this in my backpack when I'm hiking, boating, flying or on back roads. It's very small and light. There is a standard micro USB port for charging. (I don't have to lug around a proprietary charger and keep track of it. I have a bunch of old micro-USB cables from old phones.) The battery lasts for days. (I could turn it off when I'm sleeping, but I just plug it into my solar panel when it's off.) This allows me to suspend service in the winter months when I'm not outside as often. There are only five of them. buttons, so I don't recommend it for frequent or long messages. (You can pair it with a smartphone or tablet, but its batteries last longer than any phone or tablet.) You can use three preset messages, and there are plenty of suggestions online for making the most of those three messages. Mine are set to [Scheduled Checkpoint/Yes], [Delayed], [Early Return/No]. My loved ones know these are my messaging options so they can send me yes/no questions and I can update them on my progress. They can also follow me on the Garmin website. It wasn't a lifesaver yet, but it worked everywhere I took it and everyone (including me) felt more comfortable than I had it. Small package, works as advertised, great peace of mind.
