I really wanted an Olympus 8mm. f1.8 but for 1000β¬ it was too expensive for me. This lens isn't as fast (a notch and a third slower) but probably still enough for what I need and I paid a lot less. 87% less. I didn't have an 8mm lens to compare, but I did have an Oly 9-18 ($700 lens) and a 9mm body cap lens that has a fixed aperture of f8 and costs almost the same like a 7Artisans lens. I took test shots with all 3 lenses at all f-stops, I'll summarize. I expected the 7Artisans to outperform the body cap lens and it was a lot better, so it's no surprise. I didn't expect him to bat 9-18, but he did. Even wide open at f2.8, center sharpness at f4 was very close to 9-18 (at 9mm) and edge sharpness was much better. Reducing the aperture of both lenses certainly improved sharpness up to about f11-16 where diffraction took its toll, but at any equivalent aperture the 7Artisans lens was better. Based on my testing, I am confident that I will be happy with the results of my photography and look forward to it. This lens is quite heavy for its compact size (only a few grams lighter than my 12-40 f2.8 Pro), so the build feels very solid. Manual focus and aperture are tedious but don't detract from image quality, which is to be expected at this price point. The lens markings are difficult to see, especially in low light, and I would have preferred the aperture ring to have a click so I could determine the aperture by counting the clicks rather than looking at the very close markings. to the camera body and somewhat difficult due to the protrusion of the viewfinder body on my OM-D cameras. This lens had a metal lens mount; I've seen a few photos showing the plastic mount. There are no electrical contacts, so this lens does not transmit Exif data and automatic functions. This lens isn't perfect, but for the price it's fantastic.
