Last season I converted my downhill ride (useless in the flat Midwest) to a trail/city bike and regularly ride it 40+ miles a day. Unfortunately, I have some issues with my arms and back, so despite a good fit, I often have problems with numbness and back pain if I stay in one position for too long. I've experimented with many crazy bars, aero bars, and other ergonomic hacks, but I've missed every single one of them. In the end I gave up expensive and ineffective solutions and went for a few drops and box handlebar tips. I'm almost embarrassed at how well these inexpensive and fully customizable attachments worked. The ergonomic descents are much more comfortable than I expected, and I designed the ends of the box handlebars as a kind of aerobar without armrests - perfect for relaxed riders. Also, none of the options make me give up the raiser I rely on in tight corners and rough terrain. With three different hand positions available to me, I can ride comfortably all day without the symptoms that routinely ruin my day. Whether I'm racing downhill or climbing uphill, the options available to me now allow me to pull off my all-time best performance.
