Review on 📦 Efficient Storage Solution: Synology DiskStation 1-Bay (Diskless) Network Attached Storage DS111 (White) by Edwin Cen

After many months of searching for the best home NAS, I bought the Synology DS111. After a few weeks I was very satisfied. It's fast, very quiet, it was incredibly easy to plug in the HD (I used a 2TB WD Caviar Black WD2002FAEX), plug it in and be up and running in very little time. USB direct copy function to transfer 500GB of data from my other USB stick to the Diskstation. The PDF manual on the CD is very detailed and will walk you through all the complex tasks a NAS can handle. The iPhone and iPad apps for accessing photos and data work fairly well and are fast. My only complaint and the reason I don't give it 5 stars is the speed at which it indexes photos that you can access via the web or the app. I have about 40GB of photos and about halfway through indexing they became corrupted and essentially blocked indexing. I figured it out a day later, tried reindexing it and it still didn't work. I contacted support via email and they connected to my device, fixed the corruption and now it's searching my photos and albums. When it's done, it will take over a week to finish indexing. This did not affect my ability to access data locally, only my ability to view and access photos remotely. less powerful, a NAS, especially if you have little computer experience and are not afraid to set up the NAS as it should be (user accounts, firewall, shared folders, DNS name, etc.) .
