I bought a D-NF340 CD Walkman with FM tuner to listen to CDs (music and audio books) at work. And so far it's perfect! The sound quality is amazing. I noticed that the headphones that come with them are of fairly low quality, but I use a good quality pair of Sony earbuds. So there is nothing wrong with cheap headphones. A very interesting feature is the built-in remote control. It plugs into the headphone jack and then plug your headphones into the remote control. Allows you to adjust the volume, tune the radio, and customize CD tracks. Finally, the usefulness has to be questioned as the CD player is right next to you and the controls are right there so it can be seen as a useless gimmick. However, I found it interesting and fun to use. This device has a two-stage bass boost function that is surprisingly reliable. Bass is perfect for most songs without Bass Boost, but if you really want to crank it up you can go to Level 1. Level 1 offers powerful bass for rap, hard rock or metal. Level 2 Bass Boost is too much bass for my taste, but some might like it. Level 2 delivers an almost shocking amount of bass. Not suitable for most imo songs. I can't say anything about the battery life since I ordered a power adapter for mine. I suggest everyone do the same to save battery. I noticed that the battery compartment is inside the player, which means you have to open the clamshell to get to the battery compartment. It seems that changing the batteries can be an issue (so get an AC adapter :)). The digital FM tuner is a nice feature, but since it uses the headphone/earphone cable as an antenna, reception is so-so. I tuned in to some strong local stations a couple of times and sometimes they were crystal clear and other times they came and went or I could hear some sort of 'lint'. But overall it's a nice feature that's mostly functional. I read some other reviews that complained about engine noise. I agree that the engine noise is louder than I expected, but only under initial load. There is no motor noise after playing a CD. This applies to music CDs and audio books. I don't see engine noise as a problem at all. Overall, I would give the D-NF340 5 stars at this point! If you're looking for a compact clamshell CD player that you can use primarily for playing CDs, this is a great choice and you won't be disappointed.
