Review on ๐Ÿพ Effortlessly Open Bottles with the OXO Steel Double Lever Waiter's Corkscrew by Walter Hodzic

Revainrating 1 out of 5

I LOVE OXO but they failed with this one.

First off, I LOVE OXO. I buy their items solely for my kitchen and for that reason I am willing to pay a high price knowing I can expect greatness from them. They literally always think of everything. I also rarely write reviews but this opener was so bad that I hope someone at OXO will read this review and help me fix the design so I can buy the next model. BENEFITS: - This product is OXO, so you can expect absolute bulletproof craftsmanship. The rubber grip is excellent, the metal is durable. Feels heavy and strong in hand. If it worked well I would give it 5 stars and believe me I wish it worked. I don't really trust rabbit openers and wanted to think that the OXO waiter's corkscrew would be a more classy addition to my kitchen than the OXO corkscrew. DISADVANTAGES: - THE CUTTER WORKS POORLY! Seriously, OHHO you're the bomb, please make the next model so that the blade is a bit bigger and so that it DETECTS EVERYTHING! As you can see from the photos posted by users, the blade doesn't open wide enough to bypass a wine bottle without chafing the rubberized portion of the handle. Result? It is extremely difficult to make a clean cut around the neck of a bottle without keeping the rubber part of the handle clear of the bottle. This is inconvenient and makes the work almost impossible. Note to OXO. I think if you want the handle to rest on it then make it plastic (so there's no friction). The part of the cork that rests on the neck of the bottle that goes in and out - the one that is supposed to act as a fulcrum to lean on while you pull the cork out FIRST, ABSOLUTELY BREAKS THE CORK! I have bits of cork in my wine after drinking it! I know this part needs to move inward (it has a mechanism that should theoretically push it into the body of the larger part when you push down on the second level support). But the first part sticks out and doesn't fit completely into the body of the larger part. Result? When you use the bottom of the second level stopper to lift the cork all the way, two small prongs will stick out and snap the pulled out cork, which will naturally fall into the wine. to be the first to admit that there are only two downsides to this corkscrew in my opinion. In my defense, however, I only need this corkscrew for two tasks (cutting a wine wrapper and pulling out a cork). Unfortunately, this corkscrew doesn't do either very well. Therefore, it receives a score of 0/2. My vote: BUY OXO. But wait until they improve this corkscrew before you buy a model. ---- EDIT: I successfully used a file to shave off about 2mm of the sharp edges of the first part that ripped the cork. So now it works fine (although the metal has a bit of a shine now). BUT. CONS: - Now, after opening two wine bottles, the rubber handle of the foil knife STARTS FLYING due to the rubbing of the rubber against the bottle wall!

Pros
  • Non-stick screw slides smoothly into plug
Cons
  • Requires socket
