Picked this up in preparation for Thanksgiving and used it in the cooking tonight. It comes with a rechargeable battery, so it's ready to use right out of the box. There's helpful guidance on what temperature your meat should be at when cooking for settings like poultry, ground beef and steak (rare, medium, etc.). There is a backlit screen feature that you can turn on or off to save battery indoors and for use on the grill in the dark too. The system turns off when you put the thermometer in the storage position. This item is definitely worth the money!
