I'm glad someone else calculated it and I can confirm that two plates equals one cake. I love homemade cakes, but I just can't justify eight servings for the two of us because we want cake to be a casual treat, not a lifestyle. The pans arrived quicker than expected so I could use them for a Thanksgiving dinner for two. I used a pumpkin pie recipe I made the day before in a standard 9-inch Pyrex pan (Great Pumpkin Pie by Rose Levy Beranbaum) and filled one pan with exactly half the filling, by volume. (After measuring, I mixed half the eggs into the filling I baked that day, but froze the other eggless squash filling in a plastic container.) It came out perfectly, looking like a miniature version of the cake I baked on had baked the day before. Caveat I used a pie crust recipe that was little more than pie, but I don't think it was necessary as I had a lot of leftover pie crust. I froze it and wrote directions on the pie filling container so I remember to add the egg and now I have a nice little set in the freezer for Christmas dinner. The pans are well made and attractive. Yes, they cost more than two 9" pans, which is a little annoying but saves us money and food waste.
