I chose this camera to replace mine and my wife's old Apeman cameras. The cameras worked fine for the most part; but the batteries had given up the ghost due to the Texas heat, and this was a data safety concern as a sudden loss of power could result in losing the last video or corrupting the SD card. These caught my attention because of the super capacitors instead of using batteries, and I do know from previous cameras that those last a lot longer (those old cameras were front only, and I wanted dual cam setups). The front video quality is better than the old cameras, though not by enough to justify sticking to Vantrue cams in the long term. I'll go over what I feel are the pros and the cons:Pros:The front camera is 4k, and looks pretty good. The rear cam is only 1080, but many dual setups are still only 720 or 480. I almost feel like my previous rear cam looked better, but I haven't done a side-by-side to be certain. The camera comes with a GPS receiver and mount combo unit, which is convenient. The camera mount point to the camera is very sturdy, unlike most other cams I've used, and even has a clip to keep the camera from coming loose from the mount. The 256GB card support is great, but I haven't tried using a 512GB yet as the manufacturer's site doesn't say it supports that capacity.Cons:Proprietary mounting system. Vantrue does not make a mount to attach the camera to the rearview mirror stem, which is our preferred mounting method as it keeps the camera centered, high on the windshield, and keeps it discreet.Additionally, the mount is used to deliver power and GPS signal, and must be used if you intend to use the rear camera or GPS. If front camera only, you can use the built-in USB-C port to power the cam if you wish to use a third party mount. My old cameras used separate, standard USB or USB-C ports to connect power and the rear cam, so you could use any mount without affecting the operation of the cams. The USB port is not fully USB-C compliant. This means that you cannot use a USB C-C cable to connect to a computer, or to power the camera. This also means that you cannot use a USB-C splitter cable to power the cam and use the rear camera to use an aftermarket mounting system.Thoughts:If Vantrue continues to use their proprietary mounting system, they should consider providing a rearview mirror mount, as I'm sure there are customers who want one. Or, at the very least, provide a mounting ball that can be used with most third party mounts. When I feel like "upgrading" or getting new cameras, i'll be looking at other brands, probably go back to look at Apeman's offerings as I was overall happy with the cams I had. I'm not gonna blame the company for what inherently is gonna happen to electronics that sit in the hot sun in a vehicle's windshield for two or three years.
