I dropped a couple of sprockets knowing that pulling the extension cord out of this outlet would put severe strain on the self-tapping screws provided, which would eventually rip out my car's plastic body. I bought 8-32 stainless steel mounting bolts with nylock nuts to hold them in place. Also, the socket body is what you pay for and the manufacturer had to supply a suitable plastic nut for the threaded body to secure it to the surface in question. Apart from that it works. I use it to connect an extension cord for a block heater and an onboard battery tender to my truck. I bought a second one for my off-road battery hybrid heater. If a cheap rubber shield lasts a year, I'm happy. I wouldn't call it weather protection.
