I have an exotic plant tank that needs a 2 inch water level all the time. I've tried several of these (all seem to be based on the same basic design) and found them quite confusing, both in terms of compatible tubing size and performance. There are many ways to increase or decrease the size of the hose, so I won't go into detail. In terms of performance, however, I haven't found one that didn't have a leak at the junction of the hose with the float. However, after some trial and error, I found that a little plumber's teflon tape fixed the leak problem immediately (at least on my setup). Too bad there is no manual for this or any other device as this will probably prevent many returns. AFTERWARD . When I set it up correctly, it seems to work very well. A height adjustable plexiglass platform is definitely a better option over the less expensive offerings that poke a hole in something. I would buy it again and recommend it. Use Teflon tape to prevent leakage around the hose connection to the device.
