Review on ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ Discover Optimal Performance with Pearl Izumi Men's X-Project 1.0 Cycling Shoe by Byron Forman

Revainrating 4 out of 5

You can replace your roadie shoes.

Regarding the reviews for running small, I pulled out the insoles (44) - they are exactly the same size as the 44 insole for my Bontrager RXL Carbon MTB and Shimano XC SPD shoes. I have an old pair of Izumi Fuel-M shoes that are also 44 years old and have the same fit. I have narrow feet and there is still a lot of room in the toe area even with a narrow adjustment. Road shoes work differently than high-quality cycling shoes. I wear size 43 in most evening shoes โ€“ street shoes can't be compared to cycling shoes. The upper is very comfortable after a ride or two - the insole system is comprehensive with many adjustments. I prefer Izumi insoles over oven baked/thermoformed as some of my other shoes require as you can experiment with different insoles. I suspected the shoe would be too flexible for street use - this is one of the stiffest shoes I own. I really can't tell if they flex more when walking than other mountain bike shoes, which they certainly don't seem to do, but the soles are very grippy - they're actually quite comfortable to walk on compared to other soles of this type. I use them almost exclusively for on and off road riding - they are that good.

Pros
  • Molded rubber lugs on hollow TPU lugs provide grip on a very light block of ground.
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
