Review on Adir Professional Self Reversible Healing Cutting Mat: A Green/Black 18x24-Inch Must-Have by Shantel Griffin

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Heavier than Fiskers and Olfa mats. Measurements are incorrect for a mat placed vertically

Pros: Very heavy, self-healing, virtually odorless. And it's two-sided. Cons: Measurements are misleading. I bought a mat 24x36. Spreading out the mat gives a width of 36 horizontally and 24 vertically. The measurements if you quilt and put a quilt ruler on and line up blocks/inches will line up correctly horizontally but not vertically. When you place the ruler(s) vertically, it will straighten up about six inches and then begin to slope about 1/16 to 1/8 inch on either side of the mat. I've used many different rulers, all had the same problem. I compared my Fiskers and Olfa mats and nobody had this problem. I read about it in another review so I checked it out. Second, you don't get a full mesh 24"x36" cutting mat. The mat itself may be slightly larger than advertised, but you only get 23" x 35" above the cutting grid. And no, I wasn't wrong, I have many different carpets. The lines for 1/4.1/2.3/4 inch make it a bit busy when trying to cut. While Fiskers have small dots to distinguish these smaller denominations. This is great for slicing and once you are aware of the mismatch you can line up the blocks. You should just be aware when you measure so you don't turn the mat the other way where the short side is horizontal. I'm gluing paper and that should work fine for trimming and aligning blocks. I will use other measuring and cutting mats as they are less irritating to the eyes.

Pros
  • Sturdy workmanship
Cons
  • Damaged
