Based on feedback from other reviewers, when I received this set of micrometers the first thing I did was take each micrometer apart, wipe it clean and apply a few drops of light machine oil to the threads give . part of the spindle in each. Before that, they didn't seem very grainy, but definitely not as smooth as they could be. I then checked each against the included standards and found 5 of them.
