Review on ๐ŸŽง Bose Quietcontrol 30 Wireless Headphones - Ultimate Noise Cancelling Experience in Black by Jillian Bishop

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Good but disappointing compared to the old wired versions of these headphones

In addition to the Bose QuietControl 30 headphones, I also have QuietComfort 20i Noise Canceling Headphones and QuietComfort 25 Noise Canceling Headphones Quality: 1.5 years later Part of the headphones started falling apart (see below) and after 2 years the headphones stopped working. Sound: Contrary to what might be expected, there is a noticeable difference in noise cancellation between the 30 and 20i, as well as ocean wave cancellation. as well as other ambient noises. As a noise reduction test, it should be fairly easy to cancel out the sound of sea waves, which is pretty close to white noise. I expected the results to be the same or better with these new headphones. Unfortunately it isn't. The old QuietComfort 20i headphones easily beat the new QuietControl 30 headphones. Also, the QuietControl 30 headphones randomly start up with noise cancellation on or off. With the noise canceling deactivated, the headphones do not go to a neutral volume, but instead amplify ambient noise and transmit it to the headphones. This gain introduces random noise itself when driven at squelch level 3/4. So these headphones actually add noise at certain settings. I like to cut cables. It's great that the cords aren't dangling from my face, but these headphones don't serve the primary purpose they were designed for, which is reliable noise-cancellation. I'm considering returning these headphones and waiting for Bose to fix the bugs. The new buds work the same as the old buds. I did a test by playing white noise on my stereo and adjusting the volume to just below audible, then switched headphones including my old QuietComfort i20. The winner was the old QuietComfort 20i. There was a very noticeable difference in noise cancellation. So now more than ever I am convinced that the Bose Quietcontrol 30s are inferior to the 20i. I'd really like to see Bose release headphones that perform better than their old models, not worse. I remain very disappointed. I plan to try other noise-cancelling headphones as they become available, such as the Doppler Labs Here One. The search for the best noise-cancelling headphones continues, with Bose getting a bad mark for noise-cancelling. UPDATE 12-5-2016: All problems persist. and additionally. About 30% of the time, the headphones won't connect to my 2014 Macbook Pro Retina and 2015 Macbook Retina 12 inch screen. I have to constantly turn off the headphones until they finally decide to connect. This is very annoying. I haven't had similar issues with other Bluetooth devices I use with my MacBooks. UPDATE 3/21/2017: Macbook problems worsened after a software update for Bose headphones. These headphones will not connect to any MacBook (both my MacBooks and friends' MacBooks). There doesn't seem to be a workaround. I will try to get my money back. These headphones are such an expensive disappointment. I have changed my rating from three stars to one star. UPDATE 8/29/2018: Headphones are falling apart! Plastic is separating from the neck piece and the cable stop of the left earphone has fallen off. The quality of this product is disappointing. My thanks Older wired earbuds and Bose headphones work and look like new as long as there is e Bose Quietcontrol 30 self-destruct. If I could give this product zero stars I would. UPDATE 11/27/2018: Left earbud stopped working. My guess is that the wire that goes into the bud is broken on the inside. The cable has no visible damage.

Pros
  • Expensive but decent
Cons
  • Long wait
