We bought this for use around our pool and hot tub. We have surround sound in our living room connected to two ceiling speakers on our patio, but the receiver treats them as an extra pair of rear channel speakers, allowing us to hear the music over the sound of the hot tub to make it really loud in the house , which is usually good when we have a party, but not ideal for everyday use. This speaker is a good compromise. Just connect to your phone and turn on the music. Sound quality is decent, almost on par with any decent boombox. My only complaint in general is that as you turn up the volume the audio signal seems to compress aggressively and more and more bass rolls in, I think volume and clarity take precedence over audio fidelity. Don't expect deep booming bass or you'll be disappointed, but at normal listening levels the mids and highs are crisp and clear. Volume levels are good, we played quite loud last night and didn't notice any distortion at an uncomfortably loud level. We didn't use it long enough to drain the batteries so can't comment on how long it lasts but we used it for a few hours after sunset and it lasted until evening when we decided to use it for the night pack up It would be nice if you could pair more than one of them to the same phone, but for poolside music this works well.
