🎵 Alpine Corporation Gray 12x9x11 Bluetooth Rock Solar Speaker (QLP542SLR-GR) Review

We bought this speaker to keep it out of the pool. We liked the idea of running it on solar power so we didn't have to worry about a cable or charger. But we didn't have high quality standards. Turns out it sounds great and the solar charging works too! At first we tried to be cautious about bringing it in when it rained, but we got lazy and left it because of a couple of heavy thunderstorms, and it keeps going like a champ. no problem in heavy downpours. Definitely a good buy!

I am very disappointed because I love the design and the function. This would be perfect for our pool. But I couldn't get it to stay connected regardless of the source or distance from the speaker. The speaker broke the connection intermittently. I first connected it to an Avantree Oasis long range Bluetooth transmitter 20 feet from the speaker. The speaker arrived quickly but appears to have been assembled by a 10 year old using a hot glue gun. I am 100% sure this unit was a return before it was sent to me. I used a long piece of tape and tested the range with my iPhone. Stay within 28 feet if walking with a phone. After this range it starts to crackle and the phone has to be placed on the ground to work properly. It works up to 50 feet, but you'll have to slow it down to that distance to make sure you don't lose signal to the speaker, because once you lose it you'll have to go back 35 feet for it to reconnect. I bought it to put on our back deck by the pool to listen to some tunes when we have a BBQ or when my daughter and her friends swim. For these purposes it is ideal. UPDATE 08/08/2019: I've had this Rock speaker for 1 year and 5 months now. It worked perfectly the whole time. Last week it started playing music for 5 minutes and then stopped with a beep. Apparently the battery is no longer holding a charge. Damn. The product arrived and I immediately noticed that the solar panel was covered with smudges and fingerprints. I tried cleaning it and found it was the glue/sealant on the solar panel. The sealant was poorly applied and very dirty. I also noticed cracks that water could seep in through. We bought this for use around our pool and hot tub. We have surround sound in our living room connected to two ceiling speakers on our patio, but the receiver treats them as an extra pair of rear channel speakers, allowing us to hear the music over the sound of the hot tub to make it really loud in the house , which is usually good when we have a party, but not ideal for everyday use.
