Review on Blue Ox BX2409 Black Baseplate by Jay Matlock

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Be careful when ordering and check YouTube for clear installation instructions.

Good quality baseplates and delivered on time. The quality of the instructions was very poor. The photos were very dark and very difficult to see. A lot of interpolation was required. Unfortunately I ordered the wrong base plates as they weren't advertised in year and model order. Rather, they were shown in a sporadic arrangement. So I sent them back around May 24th and paid $65 for shipping and a possible 20% restocking fee. The supplier was understanding and worked with me to my satisfaction. I ordered the correct ones and they were received as advertised. Be very careful when ordering. Be sure to call the seller before ordering to ensure you are ordering the correct model. A key installation issue is how to weld the support nuts to the 12" bars, which must be bent and inserted through a drilled hole in the frame. Then you need to fish out the nut and line it up with the bolt that goes into the hole on the outside of the frame. Bolts and nuts have fine threads and require pressure to tighten the threads. It's almost impossible to apply pressure with bent bars to get to the nut. Perhaps the manufacturer could switch to a tapered bolt to make it easier to align and thread the bolt onto the nut. or use a wing nut or compression nut that can be inserted from the outside of the bolt hole. Better yet, change the design of the bracket to secure it without wrapping as many nuts on the wires. If bolts attached to nuts through drilled holes I would give this product 5 stars.

Pros
  • Hidden design bolts securely to chassis
Cons
  • I have no major complaints about this, everything is fine
