I think they are almost necessary on your ATV/UTV winches to prevent the hook from being pulled in too far. This design is better than most as it cannot come loose as the winch cable goes through the hole and is secured with a hook. I've had others that slip the line through slots in the rubber bumper and metal end caps, but almost always find a way to fall and get lost. In fact, this is a piece of rubber, not many advanced technologies are involved here. This rating is 5 stars because the design prevents it from falling at the wrong time and place.
