I never considered Black and Decker as a toaster until someone had another toaster in the kitchen and loved it. Our last toaster was unstable and it was time to move on. This model roasts very evenly. (After all, that's what you're buying it for, right?) It holds large items easily, and the small cages that go in on the sides hold small items in the center of the slot, so both sides cook evenly. Bagel installation is very beautiful. We tried one on the regular setting and one on the bagel setting and it was nice that the outside stays chewy and the cut surface browns well. My wife uses the freezer setting to defrost the waffles and then turns it on a second time to toast them. The controls are large and easy to see. When you push the lever down, it is fixed with a characteristic click, and the cancel button quickly releases the lever. A nice feature is that it "pops" with no sudden jumps like our old toaster. That may be because it seems to weigh more, but the old toaster looked like it was trying to tip over. The sides stay relatively cool. No toaster reaches room temperature during operation. All in all this is a very good toaster and we would recommend it to anyone.
