Smaller size. It is heavy and stretches when wet. It should fit snugly when trying on as it will increase in size in the water. Although i love it. I wear it for swimming and kayaking. I have 2x. My *go to* sz 2x. I should have ordered XL. Although I have a flat stomach and no priests. If your figure is more like a pear, order your normal size. I usually wear size 18/20 stretch pants (leggings etc.), size 22 in jeans. XL would suit me better. I took the belt out about 2 or 3 inches by simply sewing it into a small crease at each side seam. Problem solved. I'm pairing this with several Revain swim tops. It's nice to feel covered and I LOVE the slight compression too. Helps me with osteoarthritis.
