Review on HFS Pipe Threading Ratchet Handle by Hayden Hart

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This is a good product

Buy well or buy twice. Unless you need a tool to complete a project, it's not worth spending $200 on a tool to make 5 or 6 threaded ends. So here we are. I was skeptical after reading all the negative reviews and as so often this is user error and not a product. I'll give a better review once I've used more, but here's my method for a 1/2 inch black iron pipe and this tool worked flawlessly and didn't damage the tool or perfectly cut cutter teeth like you get when that Tube is prethreaded .ok first i take the 3 screws out of the plastic cover and use some bearing grease on the inside to make the ratchet work smoothly. no matter. Second, place the cut pipe in a vise. I placed the pipe vertically, but next time I'll try horizontally. I used chainsaw tire oil (any oil will do) and lots of it. I make about a half turn, clean the shavings with a small pick or screwdriver, then apply more oil. If you follow this method until you are done, you will get excellent results and the instrument will not be damaged. I suggest doing a YouTube search on iron pipe threading if you don't know how to do it and realize it's a slow process. It took me 20 minutes for a thread end, but after making it longer it should be faster. $30 worth for this product. To be honest this is a great tool for the money and I see no point in paying more for a "better" cutter unless you are a pro, but if you are, don't read cheap tapping machine reviews on amazon.
