Good idea, bad execution.

I love the *idea* of this filter. The innovative magnets make it very easy to clean the filter. Possibility to add biocarriers, sponge, additional media compartments - check. Suck, not great. The noise is TERRIBLE when the venturi is on. Like someone shaking the cage. How much air you get into the flow depends on how deep you place the filter in the aquarium. You can fine tune it by inserting your own air hose and moving the filter lower - that might help a bit against the noise. The color of the filter housing is annoying - it looks black and then turns gray in the water. And before anyone talks about the chemistry of the water, I put it in a 29 US gallon tank of treated water to see how it works. The plastic that was black is gray. The transparent compartments are dark enough that being transparent is pointless, but transparent enough to be distracting - I don't know what the purpose was. Also, Sikche, how difficult is it for you to choose suction cups that don't cause sprains? Or how difficult is it for you to install them for us? I ended up using sharp pliers, but there's really no need to have such sturdy cups given how easy it is for the filter to fall out of the retaining slot and how easily the media cups come loose. Opening the media bays is also a pain. I found compressing the plastic curves was enough to make opening the lids a little easier, but then again we don't have to, especially at this price point. For those talking about water clarity, this filter has nothing to do with water clarity. This is a bio filter. The sponge is too coarse to polish the water. You can buy an extra compartment and put a SMALL amount of filter thread in it, otherwise the pump will quickly stretch. Remember that "healthy" water and "clean" water are not related. Hazardous substances for your water friends are (mostly) not visible, like ammonia and nitrite. This filter does an excellent job (I was surprised how well it works) of ammonia and nitrite. Like any other high flow filter, it doesn't do anything with nitrates - it replaces water for that, or maybe an algae reactor etc. - other methods. All in all a good idea, but definitely needs improvement.
