Completely unimpressed

Completely unimpressed. I have used one of the Marineland HOT Magnum 250's as a polishing/cleaning filter for many years. Worked great! Of course they stopped doing that. The thing worked 12 hours and sucked almost nothing. What a waste of money. He goes to the garbage heap.

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • Almost never

Tuff filter in small package

My first filter had a strange noise. I sent it back and they sent a quick refund. The second time I have no noise. I use it in a 48 gallon pressurized tank under gravel. The tank is crystal clear. I have 4 large angels, 4 large measles, half glass cats and a flock of neon tetras. I replaced the Emperor 400 with this filter and it does a really good job.

Pros
  • Decent performance

Quiet, efficient internal filter.

Love these internal filters. They are super quiet! I use these in place of the Fluval canister filter. Very easy to clean. Takes about 3 minutes. I change these 2 when I do a water change. I run 2 of these on a 46 gallon bow with angels, guppies and cardinal tetras. My values are always good. I also run 2 in a 29 gallon saltwater tank with a yellowtail lady and a giant chocolate starfish. Not good for Oscars or Triggers but otherwise a fantastic internal filter.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Small things

Innovative easy-care design.

This is a great product for keeping the water clean and removing dirt in the solution tank. You remove one of the capsules (magnetic fixation) while the pump is still running, rinse the sponge and put it back on in less than 10 minutes. The only downside is that it's difficult to remove the covers from the sections. at least the instructions don't help. Take a SMALL screwdriver (like you would use on a computer) and use it to pry the cover open. That's not a big problem. Aus is a mystery to me.

Pros
  • Good value for money
Cons
  • Nothing here

Spare Parts: Fish and Aquatic Animals

I can tell you that this filter works fantastic once you know all the details. I have 6 4 inch koi that overwinter in a 55 gallon tank. I do 10% water changes twice a week and my koi are doing fine. I also have a small secondary filter running in case the filter fails. One of the filter housings was missing a magnet (small filter) rendering it unusable. I contacted the seller and he sent me a case instead of a case. This lasted almost 10 days. I contacted the seller again. and they passed allโ€ฆ

I want to give more than 3 stars but I can't.

The design is cool and the freedom to use all media is wonderful, cleaning is quick and easy and the thing is quiet as the night. When I sleep this thing is literally 3 feet from my head and when I turn the venturi off I can't hear it at all. It's great, isn't it? But my water is not very clean. I don't overstock and I don't overfeed. I see fish droppings swimming past the water inlet all the time. So I disassemble, squeeze out the sponge, rinse out the rest of the medium. Garbage is still notโ€ฆ

Pros
  • A sea of positive emotions
Cons
  • Replacement availability

Good idea, bad execution.

I love the *idea* of this filter. The innovative magnets make it very easy to clean the filter. Possibility to add biocarriers, sponge, additional media compartments - check. Suck, not great. The noise is TERRIBLE when the venturi is on. Like someone shaking the cage. How much air you get into the flow depends on how deep you place the filter in the aquarium. You can fine tune it by inserting your own air hose and moving the filter lower - that might help a bit against the noise. The color ofโ€ฆ
