I wanted good binoculars, small, light but with high optical resolution. After much research I have come to the conclusion that the Nikon ProStaff 10x25 is the best possible compromise. It was a little more expensive than many of its competitors and weighed a little more than I wanted, but it was still the best choice. The only flaw I found is that it only comes with a protective cover for one side of the lenses. I called Nikon about this and they said it was correct and the lens surfaces on the other side didn't need to be protected. I think this is incorrect as every other pair of binoculars I've used over the years has always come with a full set (4) lens caps.
