Our hens are just starting to lay eggs and the first hen was very stubborn about laying eggs. Nest boxes are (we thought) the perfect size, location and position in the barn. However, this particular hen decided that random locations in the coop itself were fine. After about a week of daily egg hunts I attempted to lay a couple of these artificial eggs in one of the birdhouses and when I saw her getting ready to lay down on the floor of the coop I opened the birdhouses from the outside and arrived at the bottom . to start tapping those fake eggs. She was so interested that she jumped into the nest to explore. After bouncing back and forth a few times, she settled on fakes and added her own egg to them after a few minutes. She seems to get the idea now so let's hope she carries on so the rest of the hens will notice and follow suit when they start laying. These ceramic eggs match the brown eggs our hens lay so perfectly that we have to be very careful about choosing real eggs and not fake ones!
