Does a great job of purifying water from organic waste. It also keeps some toxic chemicals under control as they are organic waste that turns into harmful nitrogenous chemicals in your tank. Be sure to rinse them thoroughly under running water before putting them in the filter. You may see haze for the first day or so even if you rinse them well. Sometimes some of its dusty stuff can get into the tank. This is not harmful to your fish and most filters will clear the water within a day or so. Make sure the bags are in your filter so all the water can flow through the bags. A small 100ml bag holds up to 100 gallons of water. However, if you can absorb a lot of organic waste, you may need to change the bag more often or use 2 at a time to avoid frequent recharging. I usually use one at a time while charging one or two at a time. As it goes about its work, it gradually darkens as it absorbs waste matter from the water. If it is dark brown, then its functionality ends. Change it to another. But don't throw away the bag of supplies. Read the charging instructions. You place the used bag in a container with bleach and water. Over time, the medium will turn pale white or slightly yellowish again. When it turns almost white again, rinse well and it's ready to use again. Make sure any bleach it was in is rinsed out with pre-treated water before putting it back in the tank. Eventually, after a few charge cycles, it just won't charge anymore and you'll replace it with a new one. They usually last for several months if you charge them regularly. Now this doesn't remove many medications and can clog permanently if you use dechlorination products that contain a layer of mucus. I highly recommend you use the related product Prime Antichlor which is mucosal free. Most Seachem products work well together. Also install these seals in the final stages of filtration. You want the water to be thoroughly mechanically filtered of dirt before it flows through this bag. This prevents clogging. You are not trying to grow biological bacteria in this cloth bag. You are using this product solely as a chemical treatment. But even with this product, the aquarium must be checked for toxic chemicals. This material can become overloaded if you overfeed frequently or simply don't keep the aquarium clean. This is not an alternative to changing at least 25% of the water in the aquarium every two weeks. If you put this in an external filter you will need to open the filter from time to time to see if it is brown or not. You can also plug this into the clean output of the HOB filter block. I love this stuff and highly recommend it. This will not help clean the bottom or surfaces of your aquarium. You still have to vacuum this residue when you change the water. Purigen only absorbs what is in the water that flows through the filter. It helps keep the water in the aquarium looking clear and clean. And my test results show that it helps the aquarium's nitrogen cycle continue to function until you are saturated with ammonia.
