Review on Surface Mount Compass with 2.75-inch Dial in Black by Chris Martin

I use this in my pickup truck. It's nice, big, and easy to read at a glance while driving. It is well cushioned for normal highway or city driving. It seems well made and durable. My copy has no blemishes and is a nice addition to my truck. There is no freeze warning in the manual so I assume this is normal in cold temperatures. I bought it because I got annoyingly lost at night in an unfamiliar area with no GPS or phone and couldn't see the stars to find the Polaris. A compass would be very helpful. Don't do it again! As others have pointed out, the compass can be detached from the base. The compass is adjustable, which is a very useful feature. Mine was set correctly when it arrived but apparently it's a little confusing to fit any type of magnetic compass in a car, mostly steel. I also recommend checking and adjusting the compass along with your engine and any electrical accessories and radios you normally use. I can't comment on the lighting feature as I haven't hooked it up yet, but it seems like a pretty useful option. . The lightbulb is not LED. LED light would have been nice, along with longer stay wiring. The kit also does not include any mounting hardware, except for a square of double-sided tape.
