Sturdy but with some design issues

I used this to replace an old and broken similar latch on my gate. I quickly ran into problems with the way it was designed. The gate latch is designed so that the lever has a connection point that connects it to the larger part of the latch. This will prevent it from shifting too much in either direction and falling off. The problem is that this latch has a part that sticks out the side of the DOOR. So if you have a gate with a small gap between the door and the latch jamb, it will hit that part and prevent it from closing. All of these door latches share the same plug design, but not all have it facing outwards. Not my last goal. It's even weirder when you look at the design and see that it's specifically designed to stick out of the latch to make room inside for that port. It could be easily put on the other side to avoid this problem completely. Another thing to watch out for are the screws. I don't think these are wood screws/bolts. Due to the above issue I had to add and remove some details to get everything set up. But screwing those screws in the same places doesn't work very well. I personally regret the purchase a little. I had to make ugly modifications to my gate to make it work and it doesn't even fit well. What should have been a simple setup became overly complex due to a bad design flaw.
