So far I've bought a 3x7 kit for a GT Palomar, a 3x8 kit for a GT friend (both bikes from the early 2000's with Shimano Tourney derailleur kits) and easy to install, the way the derailleurs work was better than the standard clutch shifters that bikes had. Can't recommend long term durability as they've only been installed for a few months. But right now I have no regrets. In this case. I pulled a Next Power Climber bike (a Dynacraft Walmart bike) that was hardly ridden by relatives from the shed, cleaned/tuned it for sale and figured a 3x6 kit would fix the shifting issues. had the bike. Installation, like the other two before it, was quick and easy. Some rubbing alcohol under the grips to remove them and a small metric allen wrench to remove the stock Falcon shifters and install the Microshifts. Adjusting the Falcon's switches wasn't easy, however. Adjusting the derailleur was relatively easy. Adjusting the derailleur is a different story. No matter what I did, he wouldn't shift properly on the front sprockets. Eventually, I found that if I let the cable have a little slack, instead of pulling on it like I was taught after installing the L-bolt, the bike would eventually hit all three sprockets in their indexed position. The bike now engages all 18 gears better than with its original derailleurs. It's perfect? no Sometimes you need to release the derailleur just after the "click" and then let it go down to make sure the shift is complete. Sometimes you have to aggressively shift the front derailleur between first and second sprockets to ensure a full shift. While the derailleur runs smoothly and there are no cable issues, it sometimes stalls on downshifts or upshifts instead of engaging. I think this situation is related to the Falcon derailleur as the original derailleur on the handlebars didn't have a 1-2-3 index. The original derailleur was a multi-click between the chainrings. In the end, the Next Power Climber with Microshift rides like a different bike than with the original Falcon derailleurs. I also installed the top cabin short handles. Offers for those who want to make this purchase. If you are not familiar with indexed gear shifting. Search for a derailleur adjustment and watch the Park Tool video or other videos online. I didn't understand anything and learned a lot. It probably helped me that this setup works the way it does. Make sure your derailleurs and derailleurs are clean, degreased and pivots lubricated. Also make sure the derailleur hanger is straight. Possibly even renew the cable sheathing. Examine your switch to determine if it is compatible with Microshift. While I got that combination to work for this Next bike, I think upgrading the derailleurs would solve the minor shifting issues the bike still has. I also think that the fact that the bike is full suspension with a rear swingarm might be an issue as the shifter cable tension can be affected by the suspension flex. Finally, buy a cable clamp and a new case if you need one. While I can't say enough good things about the switches at the moment, they come without a case or lugs.
