I read the description as stainless steel. Nowhere in the description does it say cardboard faux leather gold leaf. I'm baffled at how cheaply it was made. If you remove the cardboard foil, it still looks cheap. If you need it for one-time use, that's probably fine, but I'm against buying things that end up in landfill almost immediately. The chain is also much smaller than I expected. They are almost the same size as the earrings which I don't like. The only positive is that the earrings are incredibly light, which is great. I sent it back because the golden cardboard sheet offended me. I hope this helps you avoid being "surprised" like me.
