The only good place to keep knives in my kitchen, off the cooking area, is in a drawer. I bought these shields many years ago for this system to work and it works. My mom saw them a few times but didn't need them as her knives hung nicely on the magnetic knife rack on the wall. Unfortunately, as my father entered the late stages of dementia before his death, the open knives on the wall became very unsafe as he would grab anything that might hurt someone during his fits. She bought these shields for this period of his life to protect the knives, but at the same time they were always ready to use. I think he could have come up with simple fake guards, but he could never master them. It likely averted a terrible tragedy. I am forever grateful. I've had these guards for over ten years. I'm surprised by other reviews of rubber pad markers. That's actually not a problem for me. To be honest, I never noticed that with my Victorinox Fibtox knives.
