I tried several other groups of similar charcoals before coming across Charcoal Master. It's superior in every way to other brands I've tried. One of the problems I've had with other brands is that they often don't burn after the initially shiny stuff that's supposed to do the trick is done. Too many times I had to use a small butane torch to light the charcoal after the shiny substance was ready and then the charcoal would not burn evenly and would burn out completely. I've also had charcoal that burned too quickly, although it was also difficult to light. I didn't have these problems with this charcoal. Runs as it should. Shortly after the fizzing part is over, the whole small briquette turns whitish and burns evenly, slowly and completely. No problem. Now that I've found a brand that works, I have no reason to experiment with other brands.
