Review on SL Bicycle Tube Challenge by Samuel Nguyen

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not worth the hassle or cost.

Wanted to try the extra elasticity of the latex tubing. Okay, they're malleable, but they're also extremely brittle. I'm a seasoned bike mechanic and I still broke one of these the first time I installed it. The ride improved little, if at all. They lose air quickly, up to 5% per hour, so they need topping up on every ride and may need topping up for all-day activities. IMO it's not worth the effort at all. I run Compass Ultralight tires and have switched to Schwalbe SV20 Ultralight tubes. Cheaper, same weight, good air retention, more reliable and almost as flexible - I don't notice a difference on a ride, I just don't have to inflate the tires before every ride. Also, valve stems are smooth, so if you have a pump that bolts onto the stem, they won't fit.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Slightly torn
