Just call him Mr Thirst. Good for hand soldering TSSOP

Works very well for hand soldering TSSOP IC package. I was a little wary of trying to hand solder the tiny 0.65mm TSSOP ICs, especially with my $5 35 watt soldering iron. But I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to make! However, that solder wick was the secret ingredient! The tricky part was aligning the part on the pads, but once you've done that and secured it, just solder all the pins without worrying about shorting the pins. Then use that wick to remove excess and remove solder bridges and you're done. You can hand-solder them in minutes and with minimal "special equipment" (I recommend a magnifying glass/sight and a PCB vise). This solder wick worked perfectly. I've used other solder wicks in the past that didn't work as well. And I think the main difference is the rosin flux in this wick. It has the right balance of flux and wick and did a great job. And the width of this 0.10 inch wick is almost perfect for TSSOP packaging. No complaints.

Pros
  • Light weight and pure copper braid construction
Cons
  • I will add later
