ideal for art pencils of all techniques - charcoal, watercolour, pastel.

LOVE IT! Use it for artistic pencils - charcoal, watercolor, pastel, drawing, standard girth and thick conte type. yes, some pencil tips break off - not the sharpener's fault. If the lead inside the pencil is cracked - from a fall, from rough handling in transit - ANY sharpener, from a razor blade to a manual and fully mechanical one, cannot heal a cracked lead. For an artist with arthritic hands, anything that makes it easier to grip something with great strength and dexterity (especially hand-sharpening pencils with a razor-based technique or tool) is no longer an option. This swordfish model easily fits all sizes and materials of the pencils I use. Based on a very informative youtube video I use a full width graphite pencil about every 10th pencil (because without wood - just a varnished graphite pencil - not necessarily artistic quality - just pure graphite)). According to the well-known artist and teacher of said videos, the manufacturer uses graphite as a lubricant. Adjusts to different points of the pencil with a small knob on the handle - very convenient for different environments and different drawing techniques. I don't press pens aggressively. Gentle twisting and patience gives exactly the results I'm looking for.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Not automatic
