Rubber didn't seem to be a problem when I ordered it. In use, they do not want to slip, as one is used to with felt. The pads aren't hard either. When using them on expensive figurines or glass, the item provides some security against bumps and slips instead of tipping over. They are used to moving these objects without resistance. But the rubber bumpers are not strong, so small things seem unreliable. Add to this an odd and unexpected resistance to movement and a tendency to pull the pad off with normal movements, and you'll likely feel like this isn't what you wanted when you placed the order. You want firm felt pads that glide easily. If you value glass or ceramics, you don't need them.
