Review on Kwikset Signature Series Deadbolt 99090-018 - Pack of 1, Satin Nickel by Chris Wheeler

This is a great price on an electronic lock. I didn't need any frills and of course no internet connection - so perfect for all requirements. Easy install, works like a charm. I love that you can set it to auto-lock because my daughter used to forget to lock her door after she got home from school and was alone in the house. I have a few complaints, first is the color - brushed nickel is more like pewter. and almost like brass next to the already fitted silver (nickel?) Quickset doorknob (see photo). Second - when the thing works, it's loud - very loud. Loudly wake up Sleeping Beauty in the bedroom by the front door. That is unnecessary. Note to Kwickset engineers - they need to figure out how to make this quieter. 3. My biggest complaint about the key change feature. As I have different locks on my doors at home I didn't want to have two different sets of keys so I was very happy with this feature. The transfer was easy. But then I tried another copy of MY keys - doesn't work. So I switched it to DAS and the first key didn't work. I tried the third key, it seemed to work - I had to shake it. So I called support. Received by someone after about 15 minutes of waiting. At first he didn't get it - thought I was an idiot (like pretty much every customer support - all customers are idiots in their eyes) because he thought I meant the key that came with him and my original which I recoded have to do both do not work. When I pointed out to him that copies of my original didn't work, he explained it this way: The key copies can't be EXACT copies. I explained to him that all three keys in the lock I removed worked perfectly. And I asked him if any copy of the key was EVER an EXACT copy, but he certainly didn't answer honestly. Bottom line - don't expect your "inaccurate" key copies to work after re-entering them. And even the one you reassign it to is a little wonky.
