Review on KC HiLiTES 151 Apollo Driving by David Dortch

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great lights! I advise!

First of all these headlights look great on my 2011 JK. They don't block my view as much as the previous headlights, and they're easy to install with separate windshield hinge brackets that I bought for $35. Mounting the headlights to the windshield took less than 15 minutes for both headlights. Wiring took the most time. This was my first wiring job on a car I've owned, so I had no experience with engine to cabin wiring. I've tried google search and some youtube videos but haven't figured out how to wire it up. I laid the route myself. The first way I found was yellow foam on the driver's side under the wiper hood. It could be accessed from the cab side by removing the left panel next to the steering wheel by simply sliding it. I assumed the small hole in the cab filled with yellow foam led to more foam under the wiper hood. I made a mistake and lost a few tools inside trying to make a hole that I still can't get out of. Don't use this method. I ended up finding an easier way by removing the leg shaped piece on the driver's side that would also hold the KC gauge on the passenger side. I was able to easily route the two white and green wires from the relay in the engine under this bracket and into the cabin. From there there was a direct route to where I wanted to install the switch. After running two wires this way, I had about 5 feet of slack left to play with. I simply screwed the brown ground wire to one of the many metal bolts in the dashboard. I found it helpful to cut the end of the ground wire that runs under the stud in half to make it easier to fit under the stud. All in all, without encountering any issues, the total install time was around 3 hours for an amateur like me. You really don't need to take this to a professional. I screwed the relay to the plastic piece next to the battery. I connected the yellow and white wires to the positive terminal and the black wire to the negative terminal. I used the included zip ties to route most of the wires along the back of the bay. The lights are very bright and come on even when the car is off. Pros: Very bright Everything you need is included. Simple instructions. Short installation time. I simply threaded the bare copper wire through the small hole in the metal part of the switch and clamped it with pliers.
