Let's face it! Space is a bonus in any motorhome. Just not enough. Whoever thought of storing things on the stairs was AWESOME! This ladder shelf is mounted on the stairs where the steps are located. If you want it to be higher, just move it up one level. The steps prevent the ladder frame from slipping. The levers have 2 positions and are fixed in each position with locking pins. When you need to use a ladder, just move your hands by pulling the pins. Pins are attached to prevent losing. I recommend that if your ladder rack is set to a lower position, you move the levers to a position close to your RV. It is very easy to get into the hands when they are sticking out. We use ours primarily to tow our 35 gallon honey truck. The ladder rack comes with a strap, but I wasn't comfortable with just one strap holding the 35-gallon portable trash bin. I bought double sided velcro and used it to attach the tank to the ladder. We traveled from Nashville to Myrtle Beach and back with no problems. I highly recommend this ladder stand.
